Do you make this sound while styling your hair "urghhhlllglmsphttttt"?

Is your vanity filled with products that did the job for a while, but never quite hit the mark?

When you win the lottery is your first plan to have and in house stylist to do your hair everyday?

Here is everything you need to know about Keratin treatments.

There are many types of treatments, What we commonly call Keratin treatments are actually in the smoothing category of hair services, and they very....A LOT.

You may be familiar with the Y2K treatments that left hair super straight, and limp. Well, these are not your mother's Keratin Treatments. With advances in hair technology and a few cancer reducing laws (darn red tape) we now have several formaldahyde free options. Here are a few that can be found in my salon...

Milbon (Collagen / Conditioning Treatment) – Lasts 6 weeks = hydration + shine (short-term glow-up)

A Japanese professional haircare brand, Milbon focuses more on deep conditioning and repair than chemical smoothing. Their treatments infuse moisture, collagen, and nutrients into the hair to improve texture, shine, and softness for a few weeks rather than permanently altering structure. (kinda like a ‘try before you buy’)

This treatment is perfect for those who want instant repair, less frizz, and don't want to spend a ton of time in the salon. Milbon is a great add on to every visit and only takes 10 minutes at the shampoo bowl. If you are looking soft, managable, low friz hair, this treatment is for you.

Cost: $60 (add on service) $115 stand alone

Lasio Tropic (Keratin Treatment) – Lasts 3 months = smooth + sleek

This formaldehyde-free treatment is a keratin-based smoothing system that coats the hair with protein, reducing frizz and relaxing curl while keeping some natural movement. It’s a more transformative option than Milbon, with results that are sleek, shiny, and easier to style for up to ~3–4 months.

This keratin treatment is perfect for humans with curly, frizzy, or just plain wild hair. You can expect to be in the salon for 1.5 - 3 hours. Home maintence requires you to shampoo and condition the next day.

Cost: $195 - $275 (varies by lenth and thickness of hair)

Cezanne (Smoothing Treatment) - Lasts 5 months  = long-lasting frizz control

A formaldehyde-free smoothing treatment designed to eliminate frizz without fully straightening the hair. It helps seal the cuticle, reduce blow-dry time, and keep hair manageable and glossy for up to 5 months, while maintaining natural texture. Think low-maintenance polish. If you want "smaller" hair this is the treatment for you. Plan for 3 hours in salon. Hair can be shampooed, styled, and colored immediatly after.

Cost $315+

Cezanne 5 month treatment

How the heck do I choose? Great question. Here are a few tips.

I want the lowest cost, least amount of time in the salon option. I get my hair done every 6 to 8 weeks. I don't need my hair smooth as glass. I just want my hair to feel nice. - Milbon → not a keratin treatment; it’s a deep conditioning / repair treatment

I want to wear my hair curly 90% of the time (or more). I want to speed up my dry time. I want my hair smooth when I do straighten it. - Lasio Tropic → this is a true keratin smoothing treatment (protein-based, more transformative)

I want my blow-dry time to be cut in half. I wear my hair straight nealry every day. I want my style to last. I want smooth, glossy hair. I am willing to style my hair. - Cezanne → keratin-adjacent; it smooths and reduces frizz but is typically marketed as formaldehyde-free smoothing, not a traditional keratin system

Thanks for reading,

XOXO - Kimberly
